PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The purpose of the Software Developer role is to drive the technical development, design and implementation of our system and digital platforms, ensuring they align with business goals and meet the needs of our diverse, global clientele. This role is crucial in transforming business requirements into functional, reliable, and innovative software applications that optimise service delivery and customer engagement in the insurance landscape.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Test and document software for client applications.
  • Write code to create single-threaded, multi-threaded or user interface event driven applications, either stand-alone and those which access servers or services.
  • Write, modify, and debug software for client applications.
  • Use source debuggers and visual development environments.
  • Modifying software to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces.
  • Directing system testing and validation procedures.
  • Directing software programming and documentation development.
  • Consulting with departments or customers on project status and proposals.
  • Working with customers or departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance.
  • Analysing information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system.
  • Consulting with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements.
  • Designing and developing software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and design consequences.
  • Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Conferring with project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities

SKILLS AND COMPENTICIES:

  • The ability to analyse complex technical information.
  • Must be familiar with various computer languages, PHP, Laravel, MYSQL and Workbench, C#, ASP.NET, SQL.
  • Extensive experience with Java, JavaScript, Python, HTML, PHP, ES6, ReactJS, Angular, C and C++, SQL, NoSQL, and other programming languages.
  • Experience working with Linux/Unix, Perl and/or shell scripts.
  • A logical, analytical, and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with UI toolkits and frameworks.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or Software Engineering or any related IT Qualification
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with a demonstrable and successful track record in software development.
