Kiara Liebenberg

Kiara Liebenberg first joined The Unisure Group as our Group Finance Manager in 2020. Not afraid of a challenge, she hit the ground running as soon as she started, immersing herself in the business and adding value from day one. It came as no surprise, therefore, when she was recently promoted to Group CFO.

As a qualified CA, having completed her articles in PwC’s Banking and Capital Markets team, Kiara launched her career in PwC’s Business Restructuring team. Although she says that working in the distressed business space taught her invaluable lessons about business risk and staying calm under pressure, she always knew she wanted to land a role that would allow her to have a more permanent and long-term impact on a business and team.

“I wanted to live and breathe one mission and vision,” she explains, “and I can honestly say that joining Unisure is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career.”

“I was attracted to Unisure because it’s still fairly small in size but has a powerful vision of building something much bigger. I think it’s incredibly exciting to be a part of that journey, and to be able to contribute to that growth.”

As Unisure’s new Group CFO, Kiara’s focus lies firmly in ensuring the business’s strong financial performance. In order to do this, she works across all departments, partnering with colleagues to support their operations and help align them with Unisure’s overarching business strategy.

“We have an entrepreneurial spirit at Unisure that I want to help protect and grow, but at the same time it’s also my job to help shape these big ideas into a sustainable business model that will take us forward. It’s a delicate balance, but I work closely with our management team and believe that it is my responsibility to be a source of truth across the business.”

The Unisure Group’s leadership team is passionate about encouraging lifelong learning. They lead by example, make a point of showing their appreciation for their people, and engage with honesty and transparency. These are all qualities that resonate deeply with Kiara.

“Our careers are made up of many one-day-at-a-time moments,” she says. “In building my career, my primary focus is to be present, to be curious, and to learn from my mistakes in order to become better at what I do.”

“I would like to be the kind of leader that empowers and inspires, and I would like to build meaningful relationships along the way. I am focusing on developing habits that will help me to achieve all of this. After all, we are what we repeatedly do.”
